Oakland Avenue Reconstruction

The Village of Shorewood is reconstructing Oakland Avenue between Capitol Drive and Glendale Avenue. Construction began in February and will be completed in December 2026.

Week of June 22, 2026

Pavement removal operations are planned between Glendale Avenue and Capitol Drive.

Crews are scheduled to start at Glendale Avenue, working one block at a time to Capitol Drive.

Pavement removal operations will cause short-term crosswalk closures on the east side of Oakland Avenue.

  • Detours will be posted for closed crosswalks

As crews remove the pavement past driveways, residents and businesses should expect a short-term closure of driveways.

  • Residents are encouraged to remove needed vehicles from driveways and parking lots by 6 a.m.  
  • Driveway access will be restored by the end of the day
  • Pavement removal work area will be posted on the website daily

The Milwaukee County Transit northbound GreenLine Service is detoured using Capitol Drive, Lake Drive and Hampton Avenue during the Oakland Avenue closure.

  • A temporary stop for the northbound GreenLine has been set up at Capitol Drive and Murray Avenue
  • See the Milwaukee County Transit Service website at RideMCTS.com/GreenLine for further information and stop locations
  • Southbound GreenLine service will continue to use Oakland Avenue

Long-Term Closures

Northbound Oakland Avenue between Capitol Drive and Glendale Avenue remains closed until early August for pavement removal and paving operations.  

  • Northbound motorists are encouraged to use Capitol Drive, Lake Drive and Hampton Road to get around the closure
  • Southbound Oakland Avenue remains open to traffic

Access to and from Oakland Avenue from the east is closed until mid-summer at:

  • Kenmore Place
  • Jarvis Street
  • Wood Place
  • Olive Street
  • Marion Street
  • Lake Bluff Boulevard
  • Kensington Boulevard
  • Glendale Avenue

Work/Driveway Closure Area

Tuesday, June 23: Crews are scheduled to remove pavement on the east side of Oakland Avenue between Glendale Avenue and Kensington Boulevard. Residents in this area should expect day-long driveway closures while crews remove the pavement in front of driveways and parking lots. Residents with needed vehicles parked in driveways and parking lots are encouraged to have them removed by 6 a.m. Driveway access will be restored by the end of the day.
